Hand Function Sort Kit

The Hand Function Sort (HFS) is a self-report assessment that quantifies perceived ability to perform work tasks involving the hands and upper extremities. Clients rate their ability to perform 62 work-related activities, providing a baseline measure of reported functional capacity.

The HFS can be used in rehabilitation and functional capacity evaluation programs to document changes in perceived ability over time. It assesses a range of everyday and work-related tasks and can provide information about activities that a client reports as difficult or challenging.

The HFS includes a Rating of Perceived Capacity (RPC) score that can be related to the U.S. Department of Labor strength categories for work. A reliability profile is also provided, giving clinicians additional information when interpreting the assessment results.

The HFS can complement observed functional performance testing by comparing a client's reported capacity with demonstrated performance, providing additional information about functional status.
